John Ingalls Dies Days after Westbrook Bicycle Accident on Spencer Plains Road
Westbrook, Connecticut (January 7, 2020) – Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Christmas Eve in Westbrook as John Ingalls, 39, of Essex.
The bicycle accident happened at around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 24 on Spencer Plains Road.
Police said Ingalls was riding a bicycle on Spencer Plains Road when for an unknown reason, his bike was rear-ended by a vehicle that was heading westbound.
Ingalls sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, December 28.
The driver of the vehicle involved did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a gray or silver Acura MDX from 2007-2009.
According to the authorities, a person of interest in this hit-and-run accident has been identified.
The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Troop F at 860-399-2100.
