Driver Hospitalized after Berlin Truck Accident on Berlin Turnpike
Berlin, Connecticut (January 10, 2020) – A driver was hospitalized Thursday morning after a traffic accident involving a tractor-trailer in Berlin, authorities said.
The crash took place just before 7:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9 in the 2200 block of the Berlin Turnpike.
According to the authorities, the tractor-trailer was pulling out of the Best Western, at 2253 Berlin Turnpike and attempting to make a U-turn to travel southbound on the Berlin Turnpike when a northbound car slammed into the landing gear portion of the trailer.
As a result of the collision, the car became wedged underneath the tractor-trailer.
The driver of the car sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. The name and condition of the victim were not immediately disclosed.
The operator of the tractor-trailer truck was charged for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and improper turn.
The Berlin Turnpike was shut down in the area following the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
